Hayeswood First School

County Councillor visit

Janet Dover, our local Parish and County councillor visited Hayeswood to talk to the children about her role as a councillor.

As part of our learning about British Values, we have been talking in Assembly about Democracy. We have discussed the ways in which we are able to make choices and have a say in how our school and our country is run.

Last year we found out about Emmeline Pankhurst and how she fought for women to have the right to vote.

In September we held elections and voted for our School Councillors and House Captains.

Janet told the children that she had decided to become a councillor so that she could make a difference in our local area and get things improved. She talked to them about some of the aspects of her role.
